2010 - Deutsche Alpenstrasse
Mountains and bike? We didn't quite get it right this time. The only thing that worked was to drive a car along the German Alpine scenic road - Deutsche Alpenstrasse. The route starts in the Bavarian town of Berchtesgaden, located in the Salzburg Alps, very close to Salzburg itself.
We arrived in Berchtesgaden in the afternoon, where we booked accommodation in a youth hostel. After checking in, we went to the famous lake Königssee ("Royal Lake"). The day was rather foggy and a bit rainy, so we did not succumb to the charm of the famous view from the "painters' corner". It's a pity, because I wanted to see this common topic of "landscapes" in nature. Moisture also got into the camera, resulting in blurry photos.

In the evening we went to visit Salzburg. Two hours walk around the old town. It was enough to admire the city and want to come there again someday. We took some photos, which didn't turn out very well because the camera was wet and it was already dark.

We set off early the next morning. Unfortunately it's raining. Not only are there no interesting views, but a stream has overflowed somewhere and we have to stay there for some time leave the route and go further north to Lake Chiemsee. Driving through Garmisch-Partenkirchen we stop at the Olympic ski jumping hill.

The most interesting thing happens to us when, after passing Garmisch-Partenkirchen, we turn off the main route and choose the variant that runs partly through Austria. Namely, on the way we have a charming palace of Louis the Bavarian called Linderhof. It is one of the three castles of King Louis II, and the only one where the ruler actually lived. Gem. We visit the palace, the grotto and the entire park for a few hours. It's a pity to leave there. You couldn't take photos inside the palace, but what was outside is also amazing.

Then the road leads to the most famous castle - Neuschwanstein. It takes a bit of a walk to get to the castle. It's too late to visit the inside of the castle. We also cannot find a place to see its shape as postcards show. Much less delight than we expected.

And this is where our encounter with the Alps ends. Now we are heading north-west, leaving the Alps further and further behind us.
