2006 - Dunaj
After the first successful trip, which we did together - my 20-year-old son and I - we wanted to go on the next trip as a group of three - with our younger, 14-year-old daughter. I was looking for an attractive and easy route. We chose – European route no. 1 – Donauradweg, i.e. the Danube Cycle Path from Passau to Vienna.
We left in a car with bikes on the roof. We left the car inViennaat a Park & Ride. From there, cycle through Vienna to the train station. I bought tickets at the station. I was offered to buy seats, but I didn't, which I regret. The bicycles rode in the bicycle wagon, we stood in the corridor. On the way there was a change in Linz. The next train was slower, and the bicycle carriage also had seats. Like other cyclists, we got into the bicycle wagon. We rode on benches next to bicycles toPassau (German:Passau). It was already afternoon, so we immediately looked for accommodation. We had barely left the station when a hotel with unusual architecture appeared somewhere around the corner. We asked about accommodation. They were inexpensive, and he also had a special place to store bicycles. Then a walk around Passau – market square, cathedral.

21.08.2006 - Pasawa - Aschach 66 km
We set off on the road in the morning. The road runs along the border with Austria. There's a hydroelectric power plant on the way, where we get caught in the rain. We visit the power plant. It stops raining, so we move on. We cross the border with Austria, i.e. we pass a barrier that stands as a reminder of the former border crossing. We are IN Austria. We enter the area of the beautiful meanders of the Danube. The trail moves to the other bank of the river. We take a ferry to the other side. It rains very heavily at the end of the day. InAschachwe go to the tourist information office, where we get the address of the accommodation where we can stay overnight. We find nice hosts. Almost everything is wet, so a lot of drying takes place - in the garage and on the balcony.

22.08.2006 - Aschach - Grein 81 km (z Pasawy 147 km)
In the morning, during breakfast, we learn from the hosts that we are the first Poles they host. Before us there were Czechs and guests from Africa. We are inLinzaround noon. We see the interesting market square and the cathedral and then move on. We pass throughMauthausen. We didn't see any signposts to the former camp. The city prefers to be associated with its strange architecture rather than its gloomy past. Before evening we are in the townGrein. Before entering the town there was a sign to private accommodation. We drove towards the nearest address. The landlady said there were no places at her place, but she immediately called her friends and said that she had three Italians here. I saw no reason to disabuse her, so after thanking her we went to our quarters.

We visitGrein. The oldest provincial theater in Austria is located here. In Grein, another ferry crossing and we go toYbbs, where there is a bicycle museum. We visit the museum and eat a delicious dinner with a Viennese cutlet in the main square. The further road leads us to Melk. We are quite early and we are not sure if we want to spend the night inMelk. In the tourist information we learn that it's too late for sightseeing, so we ask for cheap accommodation. We go to a school run by nuns. We live in a school classroom.

Koszty
I didn't keep track of all my expenses along the way, but I collected receipts and tickets. Unfortunately, I lost some. Several store receipts and accommodation bills were missing, but it would look more or less like I presented in the table. There were three of us. When my daughter was of school age, she benefited from a discount on train tickets. We rented a 3-person room for the night, only in the hotel in Passau there were only double rooms, so we had to rent two.
