2003 Salzburg Alps
The purpose of our first trip was to spend a week in the Austrian Alps. The choice of the town was quite random. I came to the TUI office and asked about cheap accommodation. I was offeredMaria Almin the Salzburg Alps.
We went in our own car. We did several hikes in the surrounding hills and one serious mountain hike in the Steinernen Meer chain. We reached two attractions of the Hohe Tauern Mountains by car, located several dozen kilometers to the south from Maria Alm: we were at Gross Glockner (the highest peak in Austria, 3798 m) and there we stood on a glacier for the first time and we saw the highest waterfall in the Hohe Tauern in Krimmel (380 m high).
At the end of our stay, we finally decided to climb the Steinernen Meer plateau (Stone Sea), which Maria Alm shoots out with limestone peaks from the north. And this is where we bit the bug. The Alps are not as scary, but beautiful as our Tatra Mountains (almost) and... completely empty. Yes, we met tourists on the trail, but in total there were no more than 50 people throughout the day. In fact, that's when it all started. We decided If possible, visit the Alps every year.
